12.18.17: Gigantes

Spain is just full of surprises! I love this country, haha. On Saturday night my comp and I were walking around part of our area and across the street we see this big parade of high school band kids and people wearing big giant costumes. It was kind of really terrifying. Most of the costumes were just kings or queens, but knowing Spain they didn't just stop there.  There were also giant dragons and these terrifying half bear-half person things. Wow, this probs doesn't make any sense, but I will try to send a vid so that you can all get the visual. Apparently it is a thing they do here to initiate the "start of Christmas" haha, (we don't know). Spain is such a funny mix of ancient traditions and a bunch of other random holidays because there are so many extranjeros (<--  I cannot remember this word in English). Basically everyday is festivo here, I love it! Life is so good, why not celebrate everyday!
Also, this week we had interviews with our mission president which me da estress [Editor Amy here with the translation "gives me stress" or "stresses me out." You're welcome. ;)]  because I really cannot talk in normal English anymore. Every time I start talking about church things my brain switches to Spanish! Also, we had zone conference and I had to say bye to some of my pals because they are going home! The mission is such a crazy time warp and mix of emotions!
Wow, I don't know if any of this makes sense, so sorry...! Anyway, I hope all of you have the best Christmas! Make sure to find someone to serve. WE really are so blessed and there is always someone who needs to feel some extra love.

Stay gold! (Or cold, in my case hahaha) <3

PS-- from Amy--when I told Maddy about this picture that I love so much from last week, the one of her and her comp with the older woman, this is what she wrote back to me:

"Haha the woman in that pic defs has no idea we took it.  She was blabbing about some author exhibit she was headed to see at the local library haha.  I adore all the little abuelitas here! They have nothing but time to burn. During the summer every single bench in the entire country is occupied by some old people talking about the weather and food.  That is literally their life hahaha, so good!"

Here is the picture again for your enjoyment--some of you for at least the 3rd time!  I know. I'm a little oddly obsessed.

Take care and Feliz Navidad.
Love,
Amy
